Gregory & Appel announced today that Josef Newgarden was awarded the 2011 “Securing Tomorrow” Award for the most victories during the 2011 Firestone Indy Lights Season.
Newgarden captured five victories during the 2011 season, including the Firestone Freedom 100 race ran on Carb Day. The 2011 Firestone Indy Lights season had 14 races on ovals, temporary street circuits, and permanent road courses. Josef Newgarden was also crowned the 2011 Firestone Indy Lights Series Champion.
“The 2011 season was very exciting and we all enjoyed watching the close competition”, said Darren Hickey, Vice President and Motorsports Practice Leader at Gregory & Appel. “Josef was consistently fast all season and is a great champion of the series. We are thrilled to see him earn an opportunity in the IndyCar Series for 2012 with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing.”
