Things Fall Apart: How to Use Empathy to Combat Change Fatigue in the Workplace

Liesel Mertes
Founder, Handle With Care Consulting & Workplace Empathy Consultant

After four years of constant change, compounding crises, and general stress, how can we help our people survive, stabilize and thrive at work? 85% of workers report a decline in their overall wellness over the last year. However, the burden of care often falls disproportionally onto HR leaders, leaving them overwhelmed by a cascade of disruptive life events.

A recent report on workplace empathy showed that 76% of employees directly linked productivity to the presence (or absence!) of empathy. How your organization supports people in the midst of hard times matters; it drives retention, helps to attract talent, alters brain chemistry, and lets people know that you truly care.

What if you could democratize care, equipping your managers and teams to display competent compassion? In this interactive, story-based session, workplace empathy expert Liesel Mertes empowers HR leaders to combat change fatigue and cultivate teams of workplace first responders who offer empathy and connection when it matters most.
