#40Causes and Our Community Commitment

In 2017, I was humbled to be named to the Indianapolis Business Journal’s 2017 Forty Under 40 class.  While it was a tremendous personal honor, I knew that I was only in the position to be recognized due to the incredible work done day in and day out by my colleagues at Gregory & Appel Insurance.

As a way of saying thank you, my wife Susan and I were inspired to launch the #40Causes campaign.  We invited my colleagues to nominate local non-profit organizations of which 40 would be selected to receive a financial contribution from our company plus a match from Susan and me.

The overwhelming participation from our employees confirmed what I already knew about their desire to give back.  Central Indiana has supported Gregory & Appel for over a century.  In turn, we make it a priority — in fact, it's a core belief — to give back to the community that has given us so much.  We've built a sustainable organization that equally focuses on three key pillars: our clients, our employees, and our community.  These three pillars provide the framework for our fiercely independent and family & employee-owned organization.

If there's one thing that #40Causes has reinforced, it's that any philanthropic cause – however small or large – can be the catalyst to significantly impact someone’s life.  My colleagues are passionate about each organization they nominated, and in some way, they have a personal connection. 

As we wrap up the #40Causes campaign, I can’t help but feel excitement for our future philanthropic efforts.  There is still so much work to be done.  Thank you to the Gregory & Appel team and the nominated philanthropic organizations.  Your dedicated work is what helps make our community a better place.
