Ski Resorts

At Gregory & Appel, our full-time ski resort insurance team has more than 30 years of experience. Our services professionals not only provide basic Ski Area coverages but also offer custom plans for workers compensation, employee benefits, and directors & officers liability.

Since 1989, we have been a member of NSAA and MSAA, and we are the exclusive Midwest brokers for MountainGuard, the benchmark of ski area insurance for more than 40 years.

Client Anecdote: Our client owned a start-up business in the recreation services industry. He had little knowledge of the insurance risks involved. We worked with our client to assess his insurance needs, explain exposures and coverages, discuss options, and design a plan. We introduced him to a group for others in his industry and were with him through two lawsuits. Today, we continue to enjoy a close business relationship adjusting their insurance as the business grows.

Associations

Deborah L. Botts
Debbie has worked at Gregory & Appel since 1998 and has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Indiana CPCU Chapter. Her insurance certifications include being a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and a Certified Risk Manager (CRM). She is a member of the Midwest Ski Areas Association, the Community Associations Institute, and TechAssure, an organization of insurance professionals who serve the Life Science and Technology sectors. Outside of work, Debbie is an active supporter of various Indianapolis Arts and Cultural activities.

Melissa Boxell
Melissa has 15 years of experience in the employee benefits consulting and brokerage field with experience across a wide range of industries. In addition to her extensive experience with traditional employee benefit plans, both fully insured and self-funded plan arrangements, Melissa has consulted with public entities and has experience working with union negotiated benefit plans, having represented both employers and union groups at the bargaining table. She has expertise in direct-contracting, managed care organizations, provider excess risk placements, and worksite marketing programs.

Scott Gray
Scott has worked in the commercial lines area of property and casualty insurance for 25 years. A graduate of the University of Evansville, he began his insurance carrier as a claims adjuster and supervisor for Commercial Union Insurance Companies in Evansville. He later entered the marketing department for Commercial Union in Indianapolis as a field liaison producing commercial lines insurance.

Scott began his direct client production in 1984, joined Gregory & Appel in 1989 as a commercial lines producer, and became a vice president in 1995. He is a member of the National Ski Area Association and Midwest Ski Area Association and is an exclusive representative of the Mountain Guard (tm) Insurance program with an extensive background in resort risk management. Scott volunteers the majority of his free time toward fundraising efforts for Indianapolis’ Riley Hospital for Children.
